HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR BARBOUR

Now that you have your very own Barbour, be it vintage or brand spanking new, you know that you have to take good care of it.. much like a dog. or a cat. or any other small house hold pet.
We can't stress enough how important it is to take care of your Barbour while you wear it. You definitely should not let it get to the point at which your jacket smells of anything other than a Barbour..you know that waxy smell..the kind of smell that reminds you of riding through the country side on your horse..even if, like us you neither have nor have ever had a horse. Or perhaps even ever been to the country side..We've digressed..anyway in order to look after your jacket as you go along, here are a few things you can do;
- To remove mud, dirt or marks like that then just wipe in a circular motion with coldish water. DO NOT under any circumstances use soap or detergents as this will damage the wax finish and will stop it being waterproof. A definite no no.
- You can soak the entire jacket in coolish water. This will be fine and might make getting more stubborn mud or dirt marks off.
- Once you've done this then you can hang your jacket up either outside on a clothes line or hang it up inside above the bath or something to let the water fall off and allow it do dry.
- Another MASSIVE no no is to NEVER EVER put your jacket on top of a radiator or any other form of direct heat source as this will majorly ruin everything. do.not.do.it.
- Once it has dried (this may take some time) then you should reproof your jacket with something like 'Thornproof Wax Dressing' as this will restore the water proofing. You can alternatively send it back to Barbour HQ and get them to reproof it for you for a small fee (we think it's £30). This may also take some time.
Basically, take care of your Barbour and your Barbour will take care of you.

KEEP WARM IN A CABLE KNIT

Ok, we don't mean to keep on going on about the cold..we know talking about it isn't going to make it any more bareable..
However, something that may make us all a little bit warmer is wearing one of the cable knit aran jumpers that we are currently uploading!

BRRRRRR

Guys and Girls, Southend on sea has recently been struck by sub zero temperatures and metres of snow have fallen from the skies. Seemingly the lovely little area that we usually shoot our photographs in turned into something not too different to an igloo... Ok some of that may have been a slight over exaggeration..but it was still way cold! Rather than throwing a temperature related tantrum and not taking photographs and giving in the temptation of building snowmen and having snow ball fights with kids down the street we made the mature decision (I say mature loosely), to move on up the building and relocate where we shot for the day. This is why some of the  pictures uploaded over the past few days will look a little different.
We just thought we best explain ourselves!
Thanks guys,
Lots of snowy love from a very very cold Milk.it HQ!

HOW TO BEAT UP LEATHER

In a world where everything is instananeous, we understand how now there is only a short period between the time when you realise that you want something and the time in which you get it.
We all know how annoying it is when you get a new leather jacket that looks _new_. Like a new pair of Converse. They just look weird. They don't have that worn, beaten up look that takes months of hard work to achieve.
Here at Milk.it HQ we have a few tips that will help you get that much needed beaten up look for your leather jacket.
Firstly, you have to know what type of leather the jacket you have is. Lambskin is too soft to really rough up so we wouldn't really advise it. Goatskin and Cowhide however are much more durable and can cope with most things that you will throw at them.
Remember, everything that you do to this jacket is permanent. You really will struggle to stitch up a hole on leather or correct something that you may have done wrong or by mistake so just stay calm and don't get too over excited. you. might. ruin. everything.
Water is really good for softening up hard leather so if you wet a cloth and wipe it across the jacket (dont soak it.. that would be stupid), then put the jacket on and move around in it. Move your arms and body quite alot because it should form the wrinkles in the places where you will want them. Alternatively, if it's raining just go outside in the jacket and play. Once you're done and are back inside, keep the jacket on and as it dries it will form to your body.
If you have any steel wool rub that across the jacket in a kind of light sanding motion. Do not use actual sand paper, too harsh.
You can also put the jacket into a tumble dryer..not for too long, just a little while as this will soften the leather.
Or you could roll it in a ball and stamp on it.
Or the most fun thing, however we must point out now THIS IS NOT TO BE DONE ON AN ACTUAL ROAD ! What you do is this - tie the jacket to the back of a car and drive around a field.
The best thing to do is just wear it. All day every day. Like Lemmy.
Thanks
