AN ODE TO A VINTAGE SHOPPER

It is safe to say that everyone has a very different relationship with shopping. Sometimes this relationship is very detached, with little to no thought going into the process of buying, let alone the product being bought. I think I can safely say that this type of shopping couldn't be further away from the type adopted by any of us here at Milk.it HQ...and I think that, being someone who is reading this blog (or even just glancing over it) that you yourself isn't this type of shopper either. Perhaps the less said about them the better.Bores.
Can I just say now that in no way are we saying our lives revolve around the act of shopping, we are merely explaining our interest.
Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to have a little look see at the different types of vintage shoppers that frequent the markets, bootsales, shops, online stores blah blah blah.

Ok, in no particular order..

The save up and wait shopper

So,this is someone who will save up for a few months to have that big day shopping spree.Perhaps they'll make a weekend of it and go up to London or Brighton..or maybe even further France.. (A weekend shopping spree to France for most however would definitely take more than saving for a few months!).
On this spree the shopper in question would usually go to loads of different stores and,if they're at all like us they wouldn't really have much of a sense of direction and would just wonder around aimlessly, intent on only one thing - shopping!..However perhaps a more organized shopper would've researched where they want to go while they were saving up for the trip.No one really knows. Perhaps at first they may be a little frugal with their savings but after a while the shopping bug takes control, this is fairly inevitable. Usually, when they get home after said spree, they often find themselves with purchases they have literally no memory of. Like a 60's egg shaped tea spoon holder...Pointless really. All in all though they will have a good time and will then go back to the daily grind and save again for a similar weekend somewhere in the near future.

Sunday Shopper

This type of shopper is not too different to the Sunday driver you might see..on a Sunday (obviously)..driving in an old collectors car, down country lanes, perhaps with their partner in the passengers seat..or perhaps some kind of small terrier. Anyway, you know the type we mean.
They'll usually wake up at a reasonable hour, perhaps get some form of yummy breakfast (in our case this would be a full english..a big one) and hit the second hand stores or bootsales in their area. The Sunday Shopper is perhaps the most relaxed of all we will speak of. Just browsing really. Perhaps they will get a couple of books, maybe a record or two and, depending on the season, a nice dress or coat. Then, when it reaches late afternoon they will retire home for a well deserved cup tea while they look and unwind with their new finds.

The Online Shopper

This type of shopper is usually doing this for convenience..or out of boredom. In the technology driven world that we now live in we can shop quite literally anywhere.Apart from the tube..actually I might be wrong there, you probably can now. Anyway, what I'm saying is with your phone..or laptop..or ipad..you can literally shop wherever you are, whenever you want. The Occasional Vintage Shopper

This kind of shopper will usually buy one piece of vintage clothing that can be worn in many different ways. This might be an old biker jacket that they team with a little dress for the evening and a pair of shorts or jeans with a t-shirt for the day time. Very economical way of shopping really.

The Only Ever Vintage Shopper

This type of shopper is really dedicated to vintage fashion. They will usually live and breathe it. They will know where to go,when to go there and exactly what they want when they get there. They will usually have a favourite era and their wardrobe and sometimes even home will mirror this.

Here at Milk.it HQ we love and adore each and everyone of these types of vintage shoppers in much the same way that we ourselves love and adore vintage shopping.
